5 Healthy Eating Tips

Part of me feels guilty for all the awesome folks coming here expecting a GourmetDudes post (sorry guys!), so I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on some healthy eating tips I’ve picked up over the years.  These are tips that, combined with a nearly religious 5 day a week training program have, as of this morning, allowed me to drop 15.5 lbs in the last 9 weeks.

(FYI, that’s a little under 2lbs/week and includes the ridiculous food frenzy that was Easter)

1) Replace ground beef with ground turkey - in everything.  You can’t even tell the difference, although it IS pricier.

2) Never skip breakfast - my personal preference is a cup of yogurt or a slim fast, followed up with a Kashi granola bar about an hour later.  (can’t forget the 2 cups of coffee either).

3)Indulge a little.  It’s easier to stay the course when you’re not starving or depriving yourself.   I find cheese nips and string cheese are great to keep on hand.  And, get a jar of Nutella and a teaspoon.  It’ll change your life.

4) Drink plenty of water - duh.

5) Keep alcohol to a minimum.  A glass of wine or a beer is no problem - but overdoing it will kill your progress (and make you feel to crappy to train the next day).

Extra notes - go vegetarian for a while, when in doubt - eat beans, take a vitamin daily, think of it as making yourself better - not as ‘dieting’….

Healthy Fried Rice

Another throwback to the GourmetDudes days - this is Healthy Fried Rice.

You just need a couple things - ground turkey, egg beaters, and brown rice.  Plus any veggies you like.

Brown up the turkey, drain off what little fat there is. Sautee up the veggies in olive oil,  until done.  Be preparing your brown rice while this is going on.  Dump the whole thing in a hot skillet, and pour in a few tablespoons of egg beaters.  Stir-Fry until desired consistency.

Get a little wild, throw in some Soy Sauce, and enjoy a guilt-free and delicious Chinese meal!

Awesome Mashed Potatoes

I’m feeling kind of bad about all the folks coming here for GourmetDudes recipes - so I’m going to try to post a couple a week.  From now on, any recipes you would have found at GourmetDudes will be in the Cooking and Recipes category page.

Ingredients

* 1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes
* 1/2 cup butter
* 2 cups Parmesan cheese
* 1 cup chopped fresh chives
* 1 1/2 cups cream cheese
* 1/2 medium head garlic, peeled and minced
* salt and pepper to taste

Directions

1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes; cook until tender but still firm. Drain and return to stove over low heat to dry for 1 to 2 minutes.
2. Add butter, Parmesan cheese, chives, cream cheese, garlic, salt, and pepper. Use a potato masher to mash until smooth, and serve.

That’s all there is to it folks.  My aunt actually tried to fight me over the holidays to get this recipe.  You think I’m kidding…but I’m not.  They are that good.

Couple of New Topics

I’m going to be redirecting GourmetDudes, DailySnark, and HorrorGeek into this site, since I never blog at any of those places….I figured I’d consolidate.

Consolidation….yummy!
